MANASSAS, Va., June 24, 2021 -- RangeForce, the company that is revolutionizing cybersecurity training, today announced the results of its recent Community SOC Challenge. The company also announced that similar events will become a central feature of its free Community Edition offering beginning next month and will be branded the Community Challenge Series.
From May 14 through May 31, 802 global participants competed in a free competition that tested their ability to address three separate cybersecurity scenarios in the RangeForce cyber range. Following the event, 93% said they learned new skills for using Yara rules and Splunk and 100% said they would participate in future competitions.
“The Community SOC Challenge exceeded our expectations and was so well received that we are planning a regular series of events to continue throughout the year,” said Jeff Orloff, Vice President of Product Management and Technical Services for RangeForce. “The almost unanimous feedback from participants was that they learned valuable new skills and were challenged. Most importantly, our Community Edition members had fun and said they want to see more competitions in the future.”
RangeForce’s most recent challenge presented three separate and incrementally more difficult defensive scenarios covering email security using MX Toolbox and VirusTotal (Level 1); finding patterns with Yara (Level 2) and detection and response using Splunk, Windows Security, and PowerShell (Level 3). Future challenges will showcase other unique threats and give participants the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with enterprise security solutions.
203 participants completed all three challenges, 342 completed two and 488 completed one. Prizes were awarded for completing one or more of the challenges and included an official SOC Challenge Badge and free access to additional RangeForce training modules.
The RangeForce Community Edition is a free training resource that enables members to hone their skills in an on-demand cyber range and take their careers to the next level. Training modules provide hands-on, interactive cybersecurity content that covers red and blue team training featuring security tools from NMap, Splunk, WireShark and more. There is no contract or commitment to join. Membership information is available here.
